Fort Nelson is known as the Oil & Gas capital of Saskatchewan, having hosted oil exploration and extraction companies since the 1950s.
In 1999 RENEX® acquired the lease of 277,419 hectares of prime oil land in Fort Nelson, Saskatchewan following its first successful exploration operation outside of Alberta.
With a 805 barrels of oil per day (BPD) average, Fort Nelson operations play a crucial role in the RENEX® portfolio.

Fort Nelson, Alberta, is located within one of Canada's richest energy regions, though it is more commonly associated with agriculture than oil. However, the broader southern Alberta area is home to significant crude oil reserves, contributing to the province’s status as a global energy hub. The extraction and production activities in the region support Alberta's energy industry, bolstered by advanced technologies to optimize recovery while addressing environmental and community considerations.
Unlike lighter oil, heavy crude often requires additional thermal or chemical treatments to enhance its flow and facilitate transportation. These processes are carefully managed to maximize efficiency while minimizing environmental impact, especially in regions like Fort Nelson where heavy crude reserves are abundant. Working closely with the Fort Nelson Processing Plant, Diesel production is the primary final product from our Fort Nelson operations.
