Lethbridge operations began in 1990, following the success and expansion of our operations in Peace River. Located 1000km south of Peace River, in the lower quarter of Alberta, Lethbridge hosts an array of potential opportunities in oil extraction.
In 1996 RENEX® launched its first Heavy Crude Oil extraction operation, having previously only dealt in Cold Heavy Oil extraction. Today, RENEX® operates 3 Heavy Crude Oil extraction operations and 1 Cold Heavy Oil Extraction operation in the Lethbridge area.
With a 1,180 barrels of oil per day (BPD) average, Lethbridge operations play a crucial role in the RENEX® portfolio.

Lethbridge, Alberta, is located within one of Canada's richest energy regions, though it is more commonly associated with agriculture than oil. However, the broader southern Alberta area is home to significant crude oil reserves, contributing to the province’s status as a global energy hub. The extraction and production activities in the region support Alberta's energy industry, bolstered by advanced technologies to optimize recovery while addressing environmental and community considerations.
Unlike lighter oil, heavy crude often requires additional thermal or chemical treatments to enhance its flow and facilitate transportation. These processes are carefully managed to maximize efficiency while minimizing environmental impact, especially in regions like Lethbridge where heavy crude reserves are abundant. Working closely with the Lethbridge Processing Plant, Diesel production is the primary final product from our Lethbridge operations.
